Deep TMS Therapy For Depression
A New Way to Treat Depression
Depression Treatment at Achieve TMS Central
Welcome to Achieve TMS Central, the largest and most experienced deep TMS provider in Iowa. We offer deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS or deep TMS) treatment at multiple locations across the East (New England) and Central (Midwest) United States.
This innovative therapy helps provide relief for those living with depression. Deep TMS is a non-drug, non-invasive treatment that can be the missing piece in your treatment mix. In treating depression, medication alone may not be enough, which is why dTMS therapy may be a suitable addition to your current treatment.
Achieve TMS is the Midwest’s leading TMS therapy provider. If you’re interested in pursuing deep TMS as a treatment for depression, contact us today. We’ll work with you to find out if you are a viable candidate for dTMS treatment, answer your questions, and outline a treatment program for suitable candidates.
What is Deep TMS Therapy?
Deep TMS therapy is an option for patients when prescription medications and psychotherapy alone aren’t providing sufficient help.
How Does Deep TMS Treatment Work?
Deep TMS Therapy (dTMS) is an innovative treatment for depression. Patients can experience effective, long-lasting results from dTMS. This non-invasive treatment is clinically proven to be an excellent alternative, or additional therapy, for traditional depression treatments.
For deep TMS, we use magnetic fields which stimulate nerve cells in the brain, essentially activating the neural circuits in the targeted location. Activating specific areas with dTMS therapy helps improve symptoms of depression. With deep TMS, our qualified technicians place a special coil on your scalp, which provides the magnetic pulses. These coils deliver pulses to a depth of about 4cm, offering treatments to more areas below the skull’s surface.
The technology used in dTMS treatment is quite similar to MRI (magnetic resonance imaging systems) technology. The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) developed dTMS over twenty years ago. This procedure as a treatment for depression has been widely tested in over 60 clinical trials worldwide. The results of extensive testing prove that deep TMS therapy is both safe and effective.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved dTMS for the treatment of depression. FDA-approved depression treatments are administered by Certified Technicians.
How Long Does dTMS Treatment Take?
Patients need to adhere to a schedule for deep TMS therapy to make a difference. The treatment schedule ranges from six to nine weeks, depending on the individual. In as little as a few weeks, patients report noticeable improvement in their symptoms.
Once we’ve determined that you’re a suitable candidate for dTMS treatment, we’ll advise what to expect in terms of how long your treatment will take. The procedure time for each visit is about 30 minutes. In general, patients can anticipate sessions five days a week for the first six weeks. After that, treatments are usually required for two days a week for up to three more weeks.
It may sound like quite a commitment, however, beyond taking the time for your appointments, deep TMS treatment enables you to continue with your day immediately following the procedure. You can drive yourself home, and you can proceed with your usual activities without concern.
Am I Suited for dTMS Treatment?
Traditional treatments for depression generally include antidepressants and psychotherapy. These alone may not be enough. If you’re a candidate for deep TMS therapy, it may enhance depression treatments that you’re already using.
To get a sense of what to expect, we recommend hearing about deep TMS therapy from patients that have already received treatment. Read the candid feedback, stories, and advice from our existing patients and get the information you need before you contact us to see if you qualify for dTMS treatment.
